In all of the planning and excitement of discussing your wedding florals, it can be hard to forget the impact that this has on our planet. We are always constantly wanting to improve our sustainability practices to push towards a greener future. Since opening in 2021, we have always used biodegradable wrapping and boxes for bouquets, chicken wire for low vase arrangements, and moss bases for our wreaths.
Being based at The Walled Garden, and providing flowers for lots of our weddings onsite, means setting up floral arrangements is only a stones throw away from where they are created, meaning zero fuel consumption for the majority of the delivery of our weddings.
In consultations we’ll always discuss what flowers are in season at the time of your wedding, and the locally sourced options that are available. If couples are flexible on the individual types of flowers that will be used to create their arrangements, then our focus is on the overall colour palette as opposed to individual stem types. We use two lovely local flower farms during peak wedding season.
Apart from receipts, business cards and flyers, we are paperless! Our meeting notes, proposals and contracts are all created and sent electronically.
In Spring 2024, we booked a large installations and sustainability course ran by Sophie’s Flower Company where we focused on sustainable mechanics in floral arches and urns. This taught us lots of tips and tricks to make arrangements with reusable mechanics.
So what happens with wedding flowers the next day? We encourage couples to take as many flowers home as possible for them and their guests to enjoy. We plan to work with a confetti company in 2025 where couples will have the option to donate any left over flowers which will be made into confetti for our future couples.
